When I tried to sell my condo through a listing broker, I was informed that I cannot break the contract for 6 months and even if I sold it by myself I would have to pay the listing agent his/her commission. Is there a similar rule for renting? Now I have decided not to sell the place (not by choice, unfortunately)so I have a listing agrent for renting my place (without any signed agreement so far). I want to find out if I need to pay him if I rent it with the help of someone else.

I am not trying to scam the agent but I am trying to figure out ways to increase chances of renting it before September 1st by enlisting help from other sources and not having to pay commissions to multiple parties for the same.

I need to make a quick decision so your responses would be very much appreciated.
